"The quickest way to remove doubt and fear and second guessing and inaction is to simply DO!"
-Jasmine Star-
Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. But here's the thing: you don't have to be perfect, you just have to start. Stop overthinking and start taking action towards your goals.
Is this something you struggle with? When you started your direct sales business did you want to learn everything about your product or how to place orders before you even started to do anything? Did you get started right away, but then second guess yourself when things weren't going the way you wanted them to, or as fast as you wanted them to?
It's very easy to get in the habit of "learning" as much as possible before you even take one step. It's also very common to have self doubt and let that paralyze you from doing anything. Here's the thing, you are doing yourself a disservice by not taking action.
How do you get past this state of inaction?
Face your fears.
This can be hard because you are wired to try and keep yourself safe at all times, even if you don't realize it. One way to overcome these fears is to realize what you fear and why you fear it.
For instance, you may be afraid of doing something such as calling a customer and asking for a sale. Look at why you are afraid. Are you afraid that they may say no? Are you afraid you won't make your goal if they don't purchase? Does it scare you to start the conversation, worried that you will say the wrong thing? You might decide not to make a call/connection because then you can't make a mistake, and they can't say no. However, if you don't ask, it's already a no. If you don't ask, you may be missing out on achieving your goals and even more. You are staying "safe" by not taking action into "the unknown", but by your inaction, you actually cause yourself to fail!
Now that you are aware of your fear, take that one first step, one first action and see what happens. By taking any action, you can then have a reaction. There is no good or bad reaction in this scenario. It is just something that occurs. It can be a big sale that leads to a lifelong customer who then refers you to even more customers. It can also be a no, but that doesn't reflect on you or your product. Learn from the no. Assess and analyze why and if there is anything different you can do the next time.
Remove Self Doubt
Easier said than done, I know! Let's face it, we all have self doubt and it's an ongoing process to overcome it. However, knowing you will have doubts is the first step to moving forward.
When you doubt your abilities or knowledge, what can you do to feel more confident? Perhaps you need to learn something new, get help from a coach, take a class etc. Maybe you just need to practice doing something.
For instance, maybe you doubt that you can create a reel on instagram for your business because you see what you consider "perfect" reels out there, and you don't know the first thing about creating one. Take action - Google "how to make a reel". Ask a friend or coach that makes them, how to do it. Just go and make a simple reel by trying it out. There is NO PERFECT anything. You will never get over your self doubt until you take that first step and try.
Stop Second Guessing
Comparison is the killer of happiness, so don't do it to yourself. When you take action, don't look at someone else who did something similar and second guess how or what you did. You have unique strengths and no one is better than or less than you and you are not better or less than anyone else.
Instead of second guessing or comparing yourself, take messy and imperfect action. You will get results and learn from them.
By this point you are probably saying, "this sure isn't easy"! You would be right. Everyone has fears, has self doubt, and second guesses themselves at some point. But, that doesn't mean that you have to stay in the state of INACTION. It's all about knowing these things happen and take steps to change how you react to them on a continuous basis.
Take that first step, and then the next, and watch how far you can go.
Ready to make big things happen? It all starts with taking action. Remember, success is created by the choices you make every day, so why not make today count?
You got this!
The thing that I have the hardest doing is making calls for parties. I always put it off and use other resources to find parties such as vendor events and VIP Groups. I have absolutely no problem talking to people at vendor events and even going live. I actually love going live. This is something I have to work on. I just have to do it.
