Change is inevitable and it doesn’t have to take a worldwide occurrence for it to happen. Are you averse to change? It’s easy to get used to the same old ways and almost get into a habit that is comfortable. But, guess what, you only grow when you get out of your comfort zone, and CHANGE and adapting to that change can definitely get you out of your comfort zone.
Here is a quote that I have by my desk.
“By changing your thinking, you change your beliefs. When you change your beliefs, you change your expectations. When you change your expectations you change your attitude. When you change your attitude, you change your behavior. When you change your behavior you change your performance. When you change your performance you change your life!”
How does this relate to your life and to your work?
What is your past thinking about your business?
What has now changed from when you first started?
Since things have changed, your beliefs about how you run your business have changed, and then what you expect will happen will change!
Now, you have created a whole new attitude because you are expecting things to be different, and your behavior changes to accommodate all these changes. Since your behavior has now changed, your performance will be different too. Guess what happens when you change your performance? Your business and your life changes!
Adversely, if something changes that you haven’t planned, how are you going to react to it. “It’s not what happens to you, it’s how you react to it.” If you go through your days knowing that life continues and changes in so many ways, it’s a bit easier to deal with the inevitable change.
So, do you want to wait around for things to change, or do you want to cause change?!
If you read the last blog about finding your Passion and your Dreams, you know how to find your passion and maybe you need to or want to make changes to go for your passion in work and in life.
Here’s a checklist for dealing and reacting to change.
Look for things that are changing, and be open to changes in what you believe. Develop an open minded perspective.
When you have a specific change happening, brainstorm what your expectations are.
Now, stop and think of how your attitude towards what has changed, has changed! Write down some thoughts.
What behaviors do you now find yourself doing that you may not have before?
Since you have some new behaviors, how is this affecting your performance in your work?
Finally, assess how your life/world is different for the positive, and even the negative.
Keep this checklist handy for the next time something is changing around you, and you may develop a healthy and positive way to celebrate the good change or push through the negative change.
