Have you ever "Drifted" Away?

I was recently at the ocean and I felt myself thinking of drifting on the water. Think of how peaceful it feels to lie on your back, float and drift under crisp blue skies with a warm breeze.

Sometimes we need to take some time to drift away from the many stresses of our lives and take some time to just be.

When you’re in this “drifting” time just let thoughts and ideas come to you instead of making to do lists, instead of planning every little detail in your life. When you drift, you may find that you start being more creative and come up with ideas that you never even imagined for your work and personal life.

How do you drift when you’re not really on the ocean? Here are some ideas:

  • Find a quiet spot in nature; perhaps your yard or a park, or maybe a beach if you can.

  • Don’t take out your phone, make sure to silent it.

  • Really use your senses. What are the smells? Feel the breeze, the sun or maybe drizzle. Listen to the sounds around you. How does it make you feel?

  • Let your mind drift and experience the moments and see what happens.

So, now what? So you just sat and drifted away in your thoughts, are you supposed to leave it at that? NO - now that you hopefully are a little bit less stressed and overwhelmed, it’s time to fo cus.

Drifting doesn’t mean you lose focus, it actually helps you to refocus and see what’s important to you. Now is the time to jot down those thoughts, inspirations and ideas that came to you as you drifted.

Did you come up with a fantastic new idea for work? Have you started thinking of a dream vacation? You can focus now on what you want and set aside some focus and planning time to achieve those dreams.

I hope that you take some time this week to drift and just be. Let me know what this did for you and what creative ideas drifted into your mind.
