The Journey is the Destination

Updated: Apr 2, 2023

Are you focusing on the journey or the destination?

Many of us are always in a rush to reach our goals and get what we want. We become obsessed with the outcome and ignore the journey that we have to go through to achieve our goals.

But in reality, the journey is what shapes us, helps us grow, and teaches us valuable lessons along the way. It’s the process of working hard, facing challenges, and overcoming obstacles that help us develop skills, perseverance, and resilience.

Here are some tips to help you to grow and reach your milestones and goals as you focus on the process and the journey.

  • What is your why? You need to understand WHY you are doing what you do. Has it changed from when your first started? Break it down by continuing to ask why until it becomes very clear. (If you need more help on figuring out your why, grab my Refresh Your Why Guide here.)

  • Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable. You probably have heard this hundreds of times, but "life begins at the end of your comfort zone," and growth does too. If we focus on what we know and are comfortable with, we won't take chances and we will stay the same and not grow. Now is the time to embrace the uncomfortableness :) .

- Make a stretch Goal

- Create tasks to reach that goal that challenge you to reach further; make you do

something different or scary.

- Make each task or milestone the actual goal you want to achieve. In other

words, you are creating mini goals (achievements) on your way to your big

goal (now you are focusing on the journey)

- Take time "stop and smell the roses" as you work through the process. Celebrate

what you are accomplishing. Be happy and grateful for your wins.

- When you find challenges on your journey, don't be deterred; think of them as part

of the process and something to learn from. Take time after you've overcome these

obstacles to see what lessons you have learned.

  • Change your Mindset. "You cannot expect to grow and also stay the same." As you focus on your journey, your mindset is of utmost importance. Think of who you are and who you want to be. When you are challenging yourself to get uncomfortable, your mind is going to be trying to hold you back and keep you comfortable, which really means keeping you "stuck" and the same. In order to really grow, you need to take control of your mindset each day.

- Find affirmations that speak to you

- Create a list of positive attributes you want to possess

- List your past achievements and future goals

- Start a gratitude list or journal

- Create a morning mindset routine (if you want help with creating what I call my

Mojo Morning, grab my MorningMojo Routine Template so that you can create

your own to help you start each day with a positive mindset).

It's easy to get caught up in the final outcome and forget that it's the effort we put into every step that truly matters. Remember, you are the only one in control of your effort. You can't control the end result, but you can control how hard you work towards it.

So, let's shift our mindset from just being result-driven to being effort-driven. Let's put all our energy and focus into the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that it takes to achieve our goals. The process is just as important as the outcome.

When we prioritize effort over the outcome, we allow ourselves to grow and learn from every experience, regardless of whether it brings us immediate success. We can appreciate the progress we make along the way and celebrate every small win as a victory.

Remember, you are in control of your effort, and that's what truly matters! So keep pushing, keep working hard, and enjoy the journey on the way to achieving your goals.
